The Silent Dinner

Dear Delyara, We sat across from each other for forty minutes and the only sound was the clinking of forks. I realized tonight that we aren't a couple anymore; we are just two people sharing a lease. The loneliness of being in a room with someone who doesn't see you is heavier than being alone in the woods. I’m writing this to acknowledge the truth: the flame is out. I’m not ready to leave yet, but I’m ready to stop pretending it’s still burning.
