The Smell of Scorched Rubber by the Roundabout

Dear Delyara, A stolen vehicle was abandoned and set alight just beyond our eastern perimeter fence an hour ago. Long after the fire crews left, the thick, acrid stench of scorched rubber, melted plastic, and damp soot drifted across the yard, settling heavily into the fabric of my uniform. It is a deeply unsettling smell—the sharp residue of someone else’s destructive adrenaline. I stepped out onto the concrete ramp with a flask of tea, watching the faint wisps of white smoke curl away into the drizzle. It reminded me of how fragile the boundaries of our daily routines are, separated from total chaos by nothing more than a few thin layers of metal and law.
