The Witness in the Mirror
Dear Delyara, I spent so long hiding the truth that I started to hide from myself. I stopped looking in mirrors because I couldn't face the person who allowed the pain to happen. But tonight, the sanctuary gave me a different kind of mirror—the white space of a blank page. I sat here and I finally told the truth about what happened behind those closed doors. I stopped making excuses for them. I stopped taking the blame for things I didn't do. As the ink filled the lines, I felt a strange shift. I looked at my hands and realized they aren't "stained"; they are strong. I am the only witness I ever needed. I believe myself now. That is the only justice I need to move forward.
