GratitudeActs of Kindness
The woman behind me let me go first because she could see the child was melting down
Dear Delyara, My son was at that impossible point between hunger, tiredness, and public embarrassment where every second starts feeling dangerous. I was trying to hold it together with a basket in one hand and too many decisions in my head. The woman behind me just said, “Go ahead, love,” and smiled at him as if he was not a problem, only a child having a hard moment. I don’t think she understands how much dignity she protected there. Mine as much as his. Kindness at exactly the right second can keep a day from tipping into humiliation. I wish more people knew that.
