There Are Parts of Me I Don’t Show in Bright Rooms
Dear Delyara, There are darker feelings in me than most people would guess. I have built a reasonable-looking life. I know how to behave. I know how to speak in socially acceptable ways. I know how to appear composed. But there have been times when what lived underneath that surface was not graceful. Not wise. Not generous. It was something more bitter. Colder. Sharper. I don’t write that proudly. I write it truthfully. Some injuries do not turn us noble first. Some make us dark before they make us reflective.
