There Are Things I Know About My Life That I Am Still Carrying Like Contraband Inside My Own Mouth
Dear Delyara, I know what I am tired of. I know what I am lonely inside. I know which parts of my marriage feel thinner. I know which friendships drain me. I know how much financial fear has altered me. I know when my mind is not simply stressed but low in a more serious way. I know these things. What I do not always have is a safe enough room to place them in. Some truths are not dangerous because they are false. They are dangerous because the wrong people will reduce them, mishandle them, or make you regret having trusted them with the full size of what you knew. So I keep certain things inside. And the body notices that kind of silence. Mine does. It is heavy carrying truths you are not yet ready to let into the wrong air.
