They bullied me so politely that I questioned my own reality for months
Dear Delyara, No one ever used words crude enough to make the room gasp. That is exactly how it worked. They left me out of meetings, then asked why I had missed the update. They copied senior people into small mistakes and quietly ignored the same mistakes in others. They smiled while speaking over me, then repeated my ideas in better packaging ten minutes later. Nothing obvious enough for a dramatic complaint. Everything consistent enough to make me dread walking in each morning. That is what workplace bullying can look like when the people doing it are clever. The damage is not only in the incidents. It is in the doubt. You begin rehearsing every interaction. Editing yourself. Checking your own reactions for evidence that you are too sensitive, too tired, too emotional, too “difficult.” You leave work with a shaking body and no clean story to hand anyone else. I think that was the cruelest part. Not only that they made me smaller. That they made me help them do it by doubting my own perception all the way through.
