Two Mugs of Tea in an Empty Alleyway
Dear Delyara, I broke through the invisible wall of urban isolation tonight. There is another security officer who works the same hours as me in the commercial building across the alleyway—we’ve exchanged cold, polite nods across the concrete for six months but never spoken a word. At 3:00 AM, during our low point, I walked over with two mugs of proper black tea and a packet of biscuits, knocking gently on his glass door. His face completely opened up into a massive, warm smile. We spent twenty minutes sharing stories under his canopy. Tonight, I made the city a little smaller.
