We became polite where we should have been honest
Dear Delyara, That is how my marriage changed. Not through one explosion. Through politeness. We stopped saying dangerous truths. Stopped risking discomfort. Stopped asking real questions because we already half-knew the answers would ask more of us than we wanted to give. From the outside, we were still functioning. Inside, we were becoming emotionally formal with each other. I think that kind of distance hurts more because it arrives slowly enough that you keep hoping it’s temporary.
