We have not touched since the baby was born
Dear Delyara, Our daughter is fourteen months old, and my husband and I have not touched each other with desire since her birth. We kiss quickly when one of us leaves. We pass the baby between us. We sleep on opposite edges of the bed because she wakes often and there is always a bottle, monitor, or pile of laundry between us. I had a difficult delivery and still feel pain. He is afraid of hurting me, and I am afraid that if he touches me, I will feel nothing. We talk about diapers, childcare, money, and who slept less. We do not talk about the marriage. Last night, I found him looking at old photographs of us from before pregnancy. He closed the screen when I entered. I wanted to sit beside him, but the baby began crying, and both of us stood up automatically. Sometimes I think we are excellent parents running a failing marriage together. Other times, I think this is simply what exhaustion looks like. The uncertainty has made us polite. I miss fighting. At least anger used to prove there was something alive between us.
