The BondMarriage
We Still Shared a House, Not a Life
Dear Delyara, The most painful part of my marriage was not the legal ending. It was the long time before that, when we still technically had a life together but no longer really met each other inside it. We had routines, responsibilities, practical conversations, familiar habits. We knew how to manage the logistics of being a couple long after we had lost the emotional courage required to actually be one. There is something especially lonely about eating dinner beside someone who no longer really reaches your interior. That kind of distance doesn’t always announce itself. It just slowly removes oxygen from the room.
