The BondMarriage
We Talk All Day About Life and Still Somehow Don’t Reach the Parts of Each
Dear Delyara, My husband and I communicate constantly in one sense. Plans, tasks, children, bills, schedules, shopping, the practical machinery of shared life. We are not silent. That’s what makes this harder to explain. Because practical language can look like connection from the outside. Inside, it can coexist with a terrible emotional drought. I miss being emotionally reached without first becoming a whole project to interpret. I miss softness that doesn’t arrive only when I am visibly near breaking. I miss feeling that the person beside me still sees the difference between me functioning and me actually being okay. And I’m afraid of how long a marriage can survive looking fine while becoming lonelier in private.
