My Diary
Work took more out of me than it should have
Dear Delyara, Today at work, nothing major went wrong. That’s the irritating part. There was no disaster. No confrontation. No bad news. Just too many small demands, one after another, until my whole body felt like it had been emotionally overhandled. By lunchtime I could already feel myself getting thinner inside. By the end of the shift, I was answering people with a careful version of patience I did not actually feel. Sometimes I think adulthood is mostly this: learning how to look reasonable while slowly becoming overwhelmed by things that don’t seem dramatic enough to justify it. I came home and sat in the dark for twenty minutes before doing anything else. It helped more than conversation would have.
