My Diary

Work was normal and I still came home heavy

Dear Delyara, Nothing dramatic happened at work today. No conflict. No crisis. No disaster. And still, I came home feeling emotionally flattened. I think that’s what long-term stress does — it teaches the body to become tired from the accumulation of normal things. Requests, interruptions, tone, deadlines, and the constant feeling that your attention belongs to other people more than it belongs to you. By the time I got home, I didn’t want advice or conversation. I wanted silence that didn’t ask anything from me.
